NLCS GAME 5 - "Zack Attack" - Dodgrs 4, Pirates 1 (10 inn)
GAME 5
Greinke vs Cole
Dodgers 4, Pirates 1 (10 inn)
Both teams came into the pivotal game 5 knowing their missions. Pittsburgh needed a win to send the series back to LA for game 6. LA needed a win to close out the series and head home and rest up before the World Series. Both teams went with their aces and both were magnificent. Cole fanned six, walked none and left the game after seven with the score tied 1-1. The fact that it was tied 1-1 after 7 innings was amazing considering the fact that both pitchers gave up solo runs in the first and both were actually on the ropes to give up more. Both bent, but neither broke, and the story from the second through the 9th inning was all about goose eggs. While Cole departed after 112 pitches in 7 innings, Greineke went 9 and threw 138. Usually when you go 9, and give up 1, you expect a win, but runs (to this point) were as rare as bipartisan agreements in Washington. As the game headed to extra innings the tension in PNC park began to mount. Buc reliever Bastardo began the inning by walking Grandal, who was promptly forced at second by Pederson's grounder. Pinch hitter Ruggiano singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Keke Hernandez was summoned to pinch hit for Carl Crawford, so the Dodgers could have the advantage in the righty/lefty matchup as the Bucs just brought in Tony Watson. Hernandez, who when healthy, delivered in the clutch all year. With the runners in motion he lined a 2 run double into the gap. Howie Kendrick followed with an RBI double of his own. When the dust cleared the Dodgers found themselves up 4-1 with closer Kenley Jansen on the mound. Jansen faced the minimum three batters to close the door on the Bucs and advance the Dodgers to the fall classic. Greinke, who thought he threw 9 innings in vain, wound up getting the much deserved win. His final stat line read 9 innings pitched, 3 hits and 1 earned run allowed, while fanning 6 and walking 3.

NLCS GAME 4 - "Sad Francisco" - Pirates 6, Dodgers 3
GAME 4
Wood vs Liriano
Pirates 6, Dodgers 3
With their season on the line the Bucs handed the ball to Francisco Liriano, who was magnificent under pressure. Liriano went 7 and gave up just one run (in the 7th), while fanning 8 along the way. LA's Wood was fodder. Andrew McCutchen had his first 2 hit game of the post season. The slumping centerfielder is hitting just .148 in the post season. The Bucs need him to remain hot in order to turn this series around. Francisco Cervelli and Neil Walker each had 2 RBI days. Lost in the mix was 21 year old rookie Corey Seager's 4 fof 4 day for the losing Dodgers. Melancon, who pitched a perfect 9th, recorded his second save of the post season. Pittsburgh gets a much needed win and staves off the first of four elimination chances.

NLCS GAME 3 - "Bucs-shot" - Dodgers 6, Pirates 4
GAME 3 - PNC Ballpark
Anderson vs Burnett
Dodgers 6, Pirates 4
The series moved east to Pittsburgh and the Bucs needed a huge performance from retiring hurler A.J. Burnett to prevent the Bucs from going down three zip in the series. Burnett retirement was hastend as the Dodgers and his manager's quick hook chased him after 3 sub par innings (7 hits / 4 runs). Luckily for the Bucs Dodger starter Brett Anderson was equally poor. Fortunately for Anderson his manager had a 2-0 series lead and had the luxury of letting the lefty "work it out". Anderson righted the ship and delivered 3 shut out innings before leaving a tied game (4-4) for a pinch hitter in the top of the 7th. Anderson's PH, Yasiel Puig, singled with one out then scored as Carl Crawford triple him home. Howie Kendrick's warning track fly scored Crawford and gave LA a two run lead with 3 innings to go. Over those next 3 innings the LA pen would allow just one hit. Yimi Garcia (7th) and Hatcher (8th) did their job and handed the ball to closer Kenley Jansen, who notched his first post season save with a perfect 9th inning.

GAME 2
Happ vs Kershaw
Dodgers 2, Pirates 0
In the pre-game show on TBS color man Ron Darling said, "There comes a time for Clayton Kershaw to be Clayton Kershaw, and why not now". Well tonight was now. Kershaw looked like his mid season dominant Cy Young self. The 3 time NL Cy Young award winner tossed a nifty 4 hit shutout performance, fanning a dozen Pirates and walking just one. With the Dodger bats making very little noise (2 solo runs), Kershaw's dominant performance was a requirement. LA broke a scoreless deadlock with an A-Gone RBI double in the 5th and added an insurance run when Carl Crawford scored on a DP ball.

NLCS GAME 1 - "Ruggiano Awakening" - Dodgers 6, Pirates 5 (10 inn)
GAME 1 - Dodgers Stadium
Cole vs Geinke
Dodgers 6, Pirates 5
Most expected a tight pitcher's duel. Instead fans were treated to an interesting chess match between managers. LA jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Bucs answered right back with 3 runs of their own. Opening night jitters seemed to affect each team's defacto ace. A-gone's 2 run shot in capped off a 3 run Dodger 5th that put the home team up 5-3. Neil Walker's 2 out 2 run blas in the 7th tied it and took away Greinke's chances to be the winner. An error by thirdbaseman Justin Turner prolonged the inning, which led to Walker's 2 out blas, which followed consecutive k's of Polanco and Harrison. Neither team scored during the 8th and 9th innings and the game headed toward extras. A Pedro Alvarez blast to dead center off of Yimi Garcia died in Joc Pederson's glove on the warning track. Garcia fanned Stewart to end the inning. Joakim Soria, who pitched a scoreless 9th inning took the mound once again for the tenth and recorded 2 quic outs before serving up a double to pinch hitter Jimmy Rollins. An intentional pass was given to pinch hitter Keke Hernandez, in order to face the low average hitting Pederson. LA went with another pinch hitter after the Bucs removed Soria and replaced him with lefty Tony Watson. Justin Ruggiano, a righty, was brought in. Ruggiano and Watson had a tough 6 pitch at bat before the former slammed a two bagger off the wall to score J-Roll and give the Dodgers the first game. In relief Garcia upped his post season record to 3-0.
Dodgers lead series 1-0.

GAME 6 - Rogers Center
McCullers vs Dickey
Blue Jays 6, Astros 4
Down 4-2 the Stros were 6 outs away from elimination. Former Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey confounded the Stros with his knuckler for 7. Latroy Hawkins came on in relief and served up an RBI double to Coby Rasumus and an RBI single to Evan Gattis to tie the game and breathe new life into Houston's chances. The Jays came right back with the dagger in the bottom of the inning when Tulo slammed a 2 run shot to put the Jays back up for good and deliver the boys from the Great White North to the fall classic.

Stroman vs Keuchel
Blue Jays 7, Astros 2
Wunderkind Marcus Stroman came up huge once again in the post season going 7 strong shutout innings. After 104 pitches by Stroman it was time for the Jays pen to hold down the fort. Houston nicked Lowe for 2 runs in the 8th, but couldn't get closer Ben "Midnight Ride" Revere was a perfect 3 for 3 on the day, while scoring 2 runs.

Price vs Fiers
Astros 4, Blue Jays 3
Once again "rent a ace" David Price came up tiny in the post season. Price gave up 4 (3 earned) in the rare 8 inning complete game. Price fanned 14, but just couldn't seem to best his opposing number Fiers, who was less flashy (5k's), but still managed to get the job done. Chris Carter (2-3) hit a big blast off Price and Jose Altuve (3-4) was constantly on base.

deGrom vs Kershaw
Dodgers 5, Mets 4 (10 inn)
Both teams got identical 7IP/4ER lines out of their respective aces. Neither ace factored in the decision. Both were victims of the long ball. The difference maker was the 3 scoreless innings of relief by Yimi Garcia. LA won on a walk off PH homer by Jimmy Rollins in the bottom of the 10, off of Hansel Robles. Losing via walkoff hurts. It hurts even more when it's served up by your arch rival and former Philly J-Roll.

Cy Young candidate Zack Greinke was all that he was advertised. The man with the flowing blonde locks fanned 10, while walking one in 7+ innings of work. The Dodgers scored 6 runs in the middle innings to make Greinke's day in the office seem more like a walk in the park. LA hit 3 more long balls inclding solo shot by Greinke.
Dodgers lead series 2-0
GAME 3 - Citi Field
Anderson vs Harvey
Mets 4, Dodgers 0
Matt Harvey (7IP / 9K's) and the Met pen combined to shutout the Dodgers and stave off elimination. LA would get just 3 hits on the day while NY would ride the hot bat of Yoenis Cespedes (2-4, 3RBI), who hit two long blast deep into the Flushing night. Travis d'Arnaud chipped in with 2 hits of his own and an RBI. Harvey threw 100 pitches and Scott Boras was nowhere to be found. Baseball like it oughta be !
Dodgers lead series 2-1
GAME 4
Kershaw vs Matz
Dodgers 17, Mets 5
LA scored early and often off of Long Island native, and life long Met fan Steven Matz. Still New York was leading 4-3, until the top of the 6th when LA posted two touchdowns. Matz, Colon and Niese combined as victims in an inning where LA sent 18 ment to the plate. The inning started with a walk to Yasiel Puig and a 2 run shot by A.J. Ellis. Pinch hitter Chase Utley, who was booed loudly for at least 5 straight minutes, had a double and a homer in the inning. A-gone also added a homer. Lost in the shuffle was the fact that Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw was once again small in a big spot. When your team scores 17 runs no one notices that you gave up 10 hits and 4 runs in 4.1 innings of work. LA expects big things from the 3 time Cy Young award winner in the NLCS or their season will be over.
Dodgers win series 3-1
NLDS - "Neil and Pray" - Bucs sweep Cards
GAME 1 - Busch Stad
Burnett vs Lackey
Pirates 8, Cardinals 1
The Wild Card Pirates came in hot and stayed hot scoring at least one run in all but 2 innings. A.J. gave them a quality start 6/1 line and Neil Walker (4-5, 4RBI) carried the offense. Walker hit 3 long balls and reached base all 5 times that he went to the plate (3 HR's, 1B and E).
Pirates lead series 1-0
GAME 2
Liriano vs Lynn
Pirates 6, Cardinals 3 (11 inn)
Kolten Wong's 1 out RBI double in the bottom of the 9th of of Melancon sent the game to extra innings. The Redbirds needed this win to gain a split or face an 0-2 deficit after two home games. Tension mounted until the top of the 11th when all the air was sucked out of Busch thanks to the Bucs scoring 4 big runs via small ball. A hit batsman (Walker), a walk (McCutchen) were followed by 4 singles in 5 AB's. The Cards scored a run in the bottom of the inning, but it was not enough to avoid the loss. Pedro Alvarez (3-5) wielded the big stick for the Bucs. Pittsburgh's 4-5-6 hitters went a combined 7-15 with 5 runs knocked in.

The 100+ win Redbirds were now one game away from being swept by their divisional rivals from Steeltown. With the score 1-1 after an inning and a half the Bucs scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead off of Michael Wacha. Gregory Polanco (2-4) smashed a huge solo shot. The game turned into a nail biting crawl until the 8th inning when Jayson Heyward singled home Grichuk with 2 outs to make it a one run game. Normally clutch, but currently injured, Yaddie Molina popped up weakly to Cervelli to end the threat. The Cards went weakly in the 9th as J.A. Happ (6 IP / 1 R) got the win and Melancon, who blew the game 2 save, posted the save to clinch the Bucs spot in the LCS.

Toronto 9, Texas 1
They Jays had their hitting shoes on early and posted a 6-1 lead after 3 innings and never looked back. Marcus Stroman (8IP / 2H / 1R) was brilliant on the hill less a Josh Hamilton solo shot. All 9 Jay runs were scored by a different player. To my recollection that's the first time I've ever seen 9 starters score 1 one each. Ben Revere and Colabello each had three hits.
Blue Jays lead series 2-0
GAME 3
Estrada vs Perez
Toronto 3, Texas 0
Toronto scored 3 runs in the top of the 3rd and that's all they would need as Marco Estrada came within one out of throwing a series clinching perfect game. With 2 out in the bottom of the 9th Delino DeShields singled cleanly to center to break up the perfecto. Choo follwed by flying out to center to end the game and the series. The Rangers weren't able to avoid a sweep, but they did avoid being no hit.

ALDS - Astros Go-Go in 5 over KC
In a back and forth series, it came down to a game
5 in Kansas City. But unlike real life, Collin McHugh and his Astros
would get the better of Johnny Cueto and Kansas City. Cueto has some
tough numbers from his partial season with KC so it was a tall task to
expect him to win again after coming up big in game 2. The series
included a classic extra inning battle in game 4 that was won in 12
innings by Houston on a Carlos Gomez home run.

NLWC - "No K-Marte": Bucs 6, Cubs 5
Cole vs Arrieta
Pirates 6, Cubs 5
The pre-game hype had a classic matchup between dominant aces. Instead we got a game where both starters were mediocre at best. Cy Young candidate Jake Arrieta gave up 4 in 6.2 IP's, while Gerrit Cole (5 ER / 4 IP) couldn't even get through the 5th. With the score 4-1 Bucs Cole gave up 4 hits to start the 5th, with the 4th knock (2 run double) by Anthony Rizzo tied the game. Cole was replaced, but the damage had been done with the Cubbies sporting a 5-4 lead. For the next 2 1/2 innings neither team scored. Heading into the home half of the 8th the Bucs were running out of outs, but a clutch 2 out RBI single by pinch hitter Chris Stewart tied the game at five apiece. In the bottom of the 9th Polanco reached first on a seeing eyed single up the middle. Harrison singled sharply through the 3-4 hole to put runners on 1st and 2nd with 2013 NL MVP Andrew McCutchen coming to bat. Chicago didn't want "Cutch" to beat them, so they pitched around him. That led to a walk that loaded the bases for Starling Marte. With the bases loaded and nobody out in a tie game the Cubs needed a strikeout and went to Fernando Rodney who ran the count full to Marte. The payoff pitch was low and so were the collective shoulders of Cubs fans across the nation as Polanco walked home for the game winner on a "walk off walk" by Marte.

Houston's Gattis Made
The Astros power and solid starting pitching was
the reason they were in the AL Wild Card play in game. In game 163, it
was more of the same as the Astros went into Yankee Stadium and
eliminated the Yankees 6-1. AL Cy Young favorite, Dallas Keuchel, was
dominant going 7 innings, allowing just a Greg Bird 5th inning home run.
Offensively, Houston got homers from Chris Carter and Evan Gattis off
Yankee starter Masahiro Tanaka. Jason Castro added a bomb off Yankee
closer Andrew Miller in the 9th inning to add an exclamation point to
the victory. Carlos Correa and George Springer each chipped in with 2
hits and an RBI as part of the 10 hit Houston attack.
Houston will look to continue its fairy-tale run against the AL Central champion Kansas City Royals in the next round. Thanks to Randy for getting this game in quickly.

2015 MLB Playoffs...
Sadly we weren't able to play the MLB Projection disk game by game / day by day. That project required way to much file maintenance for each participant and the commish. To move on, we will play the 2015 Playoff teams Tournament, which has become an annual KOD tradition since 2011. We will play each round after it has been completed, so we can use "as played" lineups (where applicable).
We still have 2 teams that haven't been claimed: NY Yankees & STL Cardinals.
E-mail me if you are interested in managing one of these teams. The league website, will be used as the tournament website, so everyone can follow along.
All games are h2h and online.
